Psalm 132

1

A song of ascents. Remember, Yahweh, for David all his afflictings,

2

that he swore to Yahweh, vowed to the mighty-one of Ya’acob:

3

“If I come into the tent of mine house, if I ascend upon the bed of my couch,

4

if I give sleep to mine eyes, to mine eyelids slumber—

5

till I find a place for Yahweh, an abode for the mighty-one of Ya’acob.”

6

Lo, we have heard it in Ephratah we have found it in the fields of Ya’ar.1

7

We shall come into his abode, we shall prostrate to the stool of his feet.2

8

Rise, O Yahweh, to thy restingplace, thou and the ark of thy strength;

9

thy priests be clothed with rightness, and thy faithful ring out;

10

for the sake of David thy servant, turn not back the face of thine anointed.

11

Yahweh swore to David truth; he shall not turn back from it: “From the fruit of thy belly I appoint to thee a throne;3

12

if thy sons guard my bond4 and testimony that I teach them, also their sons until until shall dwell on thy throne.”

13

For Yahweh hath chosen Tsiyon, craved it for his dwelling:

14

“This my restingplace until until; here I dwell, for I have craved it;

15

her provision shall I blessing bless, her wanting shall I fill with bread,

16

and her priests shall I clothe with salvation, and her faithful shall ring out ringing;

17

there shall I sprout the horn of David, array a lamp for mine anointed;

18

his enemies shall I clothe with shame, and upon him flowereth his crown.”

Footnotes

  1. Ya’ar. Or “the forest,” but this appears to be a shortened name for Kiriath-Ya’arim, where the ark was being kept (1 Sam 7:2).

  2. feet. The Hebrew form is dual.

  3. I appoint to thee a throne. Or, “I put on thy throne.”

  4. bond. Trad. “covenant.”
