Genesis 11

1

And all the land was of one lip and one speech,1

2

and it came to be, in their journeying from the east, that they found a plain2 in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there,

and they said, each man to his comrade, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them to burning”—and the brick was to them for stone, and bitumen they had for mortar.

4

And they said, “Come, let us build unto us a city and a tower, and its head in the heavens, and let us make unto us a name, lest we be scattered upon the face of all the land.”

And Yahweh said, “Lo, the people are one, and one lip is for them all”
